Elim is pleased to report the completion of adaptation works at its newest specialist supported housing scheme 'Project W' in Gloucestershire.
Working in partnership with NHS Gloucestershire, Elim have adapted a former private residential property that will accommodate two individuals currently in hospital with their transition planned over April and May 2024.
The scheme, funded by NHSE and ICS Gloucestershire will provide the individuals with their own homes and support at all times.
Naina Mandleker, Commissioning Manager for NHS Gloucestershire ICB said: “After much hard work, we are excited that the property is now ready for the two individuals to move in. Specialist supported housing offered by a Housing Association like Elim, with person-centered care and support separately commissioned with a skilled provider is the way forward for people with complex care needs to lead their best lives in the community. The model is ideal as it leads to a true separation of care and housing.”
Paul Smith, Elim CEO said: “Elim’s vision is to meet housing need and deliver homes that change people’s lives. This project aligns exactly with that vision and we are so pleased to complete these homes in our first Specialist Supported Housing project in Gloucestershire. It is great that soon, two individuals will be moving from an institutional setting to having their own homes.”
Over the last two years, health service figures reveal that there are still over 2,000 people with a learning disability and/or autism in hospitals with lack of suitable housing cited as the single largest barrier to their discharge. Specialist schemes such as this property in Gloucestershire will enable the individuals to leave hospital and be appropriately supported in their own homes.
