Elim are proud to support LGBT+ History Month 2025, celebrated every February across the UK. Founded in 2004 by ‘Schools Out’ project, it provides free resources for education settings and organisations to help them celebrate and usualise LGBT+ lives in their full diversity.
How are Elim supporting individuals?
Created in collaboration with Elim’s Board, leadership team and colleagues, our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy reflects Elim’s commitment to the delivery of accessible and inclusive services which can respond to the changing needs of all our customers and colleagues. The delivery of the strategy will also help us to identify and challenge any obstacles which stand in the way of the improvement of Elim’s diverse and inclusive culture. A short version of the EDI strategy can be read here.
We continue to work in partnership with SARI, with a specific focus on raising awareness of and tackling hate crime within our communities. This week we invited SARI to talk to Elim colleagues about understanding the impact LGBT+ hate crime has, how to access support for individuals, the importance of allyship and understanding the barriers the community may face.
Later this year, we will be attending Bristol Pride for the fourth year running, celebrating diversity, inclusivity, individuality, respect and unity not just across Elim, but across our communities. You will find us in the community tent and we look forward to seeing many of you there.
Useful Resources
Staying Connected
Keeping in touch with loved ones and making new friends by taking part in social activities can help you stay connected. There are lots of social groups out there, and some are specifically for LGBT+ people. You can usually find out what's going on in your local area at:
LGBT Consortium has a directory to help you find local LGBT+ services and groups. Search the directory.
LGBT+ rights
We live in a diverse society, and whilst we have made great strides in recent decades to support LGBT+ people, who make a vital contribution to our culture and communities, we know that individuals continue to face significant barriers in areas such as education, housing and employment. Citizens Advice have put together a useful information hub to help you understand your rights.
Dealing with discrimination
No one should have to deal with discrimination, prejudice or intimidation because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. If you do face discrimination, it's important to remember that you can report it.
Health and Wellbeing
National charity LGBTQ+ Foundation put wellbeing at the heart of everything they do and are a great resource for anyone looking for information on wellbeing support. If it’s health related information you are looking for, Mind have a complete guide to accessing healthcare services with a focus on LGBT+ related topics.
